Come, re-live history with us in Allegany County. In the early 1800's when much of New York was already settled, most of the area was a wilderness, inhabited by Native Americans. This slow development is still apparent in our abundance of charming Victorian villages and towns. Historic districts in Alfred, Angelica and Cuba showcase a variety of architectural styles that have emerged over the years. Neighborhoods and small museums dotting the County preserve the past.
Allegany County is also looking for ways to enhance our future. With major universities and colleges within our boundaries, we have access to national and international cultural influences, as well as a rich heritage of home-grown talent year round, Allegany County offers unique cultural experiences, from a weekend tour of 25-30 artists' studios, to performing arts, to special exhibits and concerts. Our many public libraries and historical societies are a rich and abundant resource for those wishing to delve into regional history or genealogy. In addition, there are landmark structures and points of interest to please even those with the most discriminating tastes.
So plan a weekend... or a whole week visiting our neck of the woods here in New York. You'll be glad you did.
